Over half of all reported slips, trips and falls at UW-Madison occur during the winter months of November through February. The total incurred direct cost for these injuries in 2012 was $270,000. Indirect costs are estimated at a minimum of five times the direct cost (approximately $1,350,000 for the year 2012).

The ACS Safety Culture Task Force report provides guidance, suggestions, examples, and endorsements that can help support the safety culture in universities and colleges. The report has identified over fifteen best components and best practices of a good safety culture that could be used by universities and colleges to strengthen their safety culture; and can provide tools and resources to enhance the overall safety culture.

The week of April 13-17, 2015, has been designated Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. Wisconsin Emergency Management and the five National Weather Service Forecast Offices that service Wisconsin are asking that everyone take time to go over their safety plans so that they will be ready when severe weather strikes.
