Courses Offered

The General & Building Safety Training program offers Learn@UW online and onsite courses in general health and safety topics. Role, function, and workplace-specific content is also available through division and academic unit courses.

Workplace Safety is a umbrella course including modules such as Lockout/Tagout, Aerial Lift and other topics for operational staff.

Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos Awareness

Comprehensive course to explain what asbestos is, the difference(s) between "friable" and "non-friable" asbestos, the health effects relating to contact, procedures for controlling and reporting asbestos exposure, and the identification of building materials containing asbestos.

This course is meant for anyone who does not perform abatement tasks, but occasionally works around asbestos.

Lead (Pb) Awareness

Lead Awareness

This course is intended for anyone who conducts or coordinates facility maintenance or remodeling (other than people who conduct actual lead abatement or remediation).

The Lead Awareness training will cover what lead is, where it comes from, its properties, and its historical perspectives. Upon completion of the course, users should be able to identify common materials that may contain lead or lead compounds.

To register and complete a Learn@UW online course, please follow these instructions:     

1. Login to Learn@UW at https://learnuw.wisc.edu with your UW NetID or a visitor login.

2. From the right hand side of your screen, click the dropdown arrow next to Desire2Learn. Select Self-Registration from the list.

3. Select the desired course from the list.

4. After selecting the course, the Description dialog will appear. This screen provides course name and basic information about the course. Press the Register button.

4. On the Registration Form, enter your name and answer the required questions. When finished, click Submit.

OHRD Help

Register for onsite training using the OHRD registration system.

1. Click on Environment, Health & Safety in the catalog.

2. Choose a class from the available listing.

3. After selecting the course, the description dialog will appear. This screen provides course name and basic information about the course. Press the "Login & Register" button.
