The Office of Radiation Safety offers several courses available for self-registration through Learn@UW.  Register using the name you used for MyUW.

Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers

After successful completion of this 2-part training you will be a certified Radiation Worker at UW-Madison. This part of the training is in the form of a video which will give you an introduction to health physics, the science of ionizing radiation.

The second part of the training will be at the Radiation Safety Office and will focus on the practical aspects of our program and the safe use of radionuclides in the laboratory. This is a mandatory training based on regulatory requirements for those who will be using radioactive materials at UW-Madison.

Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers

This in-person course (Part II of RSRW) will focus on the practical aspects of our program and the safe use of radionuclides in the laboratory. Completion of both Part I and II are mandatory and based on regulatory requirements for those who will be using radioactive materials at UW-Madison.

Notes:
Portions I and II of Radiation Safety 101 are required to be completed in order to become an Authorized User of radioactive material at UW-Madison.

Radiation Safety 102: Radiation Safety Refresher Training

Radiation Safety Refresher Training

This annual, on-line refresher course covers a variety of Radiation Safety topics on a rotating basis and is intended for personnel who have been previously certified to work with radioactive material on the UW-Madison campus.

The purpose of the short video is to refresh and remind radioactive materials users of safe work practices and regulatory compliance obligations.

Format: Learn@UW (self-registration)

Prerequisite: Radiation Safety 101 Parts 1 and 2

Renewal: Annually in October

Radiation Safety 105: Radiation Safety for Irradiator Users and Animal Caregivers

Radiation Safety for Irradiator Users and Animal Caregivers

This on-line course emphasizes the general principles of Radiation Safety for users of radiation producing equipment and animal caregivers. Principle Investigators/Authorized Users will provide additional in-service training. 

Additional training will be provided by the Radiation Safety Office to those who need to use closed beam irradiators or gauges. Please contact Radiation Safety for details.

This is a basic X-Ray diffraction unit safety training designed to give general understanding of fundamentals of X-rays, potential hazards associated with diffraction units, and ways to control the hazards.

Training records for the courses 101, 102, 103, 104 & 105 in Learn@UW can be obtained using the VCRGE Look Up Tool.

Please Note: Your record may not be visible in the Look Up Tool for up to 10 days after you have completed the course. This data transfer delay is beyond our control.

To register and complete a Learn@UW online course, please follow these instructions:     

1. Login to Learn@UW at https://learnuw.wisc.edu with your UW NetID or a visitor login.

2. From the right hand side of your screen, click the dropdown arrow next to Desire2Learn. Select Self-Registration from the list.

3. Select the desired course from the list.

4. After selecting the course, the Description dialog will appear. This screen provides course name and basic information about the course. Press the Register button.

4. On the Registration Form, enter your name and answer the required questions. When finished, click Submit.
