We have combined Biosafety 101, Biosafety 104 and Biosafety 201 into one course called “Biosafety Required Training.” The new course is split into 6 different modules: Introduction to Biosafety Risk Assessment & Mitigation, NIH Guidelines & Research Oversight at UW-Madison, Biosafety Protocol Process, Procedural Risks & Mitigation, Exposure Response & Reportable Events, and Disinfection, Decontamination, & Biohazard Disposal. In the redesigned course, you will find helpful videos and animations and practical information that you can directly apply to the day to day operations in your lab. We have incorporated researcher feedback to improve the required training and we encourage for you to continue to send us your thoughts and ideas on how we can further advance the training.
All personnel listed on a biosafety protocol are required to take online biosafety training. Individuals whose Biosafety 101, Biosafety 104, and Biosafety 201 training is up to date (taken within the last 5 years), do not need to complete the new required course at this time. Individuals whose Biosafety 101, Biosafety 104, or Biosafety 201 training has expired will renew their training using the new “Biosafety Required Training”. Individuals who are new and have not yet completed online biosafety training will need to complete the new “Biosafety Required Training.” You must score 70% or higher on the course quiz to pass. The course is good for 5 years.
