DOT Shipper’s training

Description:

DOT Shipper’s training is offered on an as-needed basis to those who will need to ship radioactive materials. Most such shipping is completed by ORS staff, however there are a few groups outside of ORS who require this training.

You will be instructed how to access the quiz during the course. A score of 80% is required to pass

Radiation Safety 101: Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers – Part II

Description:

This in-person class is the second part of the Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers course. We will focus on the practical aspects of our program and safe use of radionuclides in the laboratory. Completion of Radiation Safety 101 parts 1 and 2 fulfills regulatory requirements and is mandatory for those who will use radioactive materials at UW-Madison.

Notes:
Portions I and II of Radiation Safety 101 are required to be completed in order to become an Authorized User of radioactive material at UW-Madison.

Asbestos Awareness

Description:

Comprehensive course to explain what asbestos is, the difference(s) between “friable” and “non-friable” asbestos, the health effects relating to contact, procedures for controlling and reporting asbestos exposure, and the identification of building materials containing asbestos.

This course is meant for anyone who does not perform abatement tasks, but occasionally works around asbestos.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Description:

In-person training outlining the most common types of extinguishers, selection of proper fire extinguisher and proper fire extinguisher usage. Includes live-fire hands-on demonstration.

Hazard Communication Training (In Person)

Description:

his in-person class teaches you how to work safely with hazardous materials in a non-lab environment.

All departments on UW-Madison campus that work with or use hazardous chemicals in a non-laboratory environment (such as art studios, printing operations, custodial operations, etc.) must implement a Hazard Communication Program as per the Hazard Communication Standard, CFR 1910,1200 and Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

Hazardous Chemical Shipping/Transportation Training

Description:

This in-person course teaches you how to properly prepare chemical shipments and how to load and unload chemical shipments. All employees that perform shipping must be trained on how to identify, mark/label and package hazardous chemicals, as well as security and emergency response information.

Anyone who ships or transports hazardous chemicals

Fume Hood Use (In Person)

Description:

Fume hood in-person training covers safe use of a fume hood, introduction to the components of a fume hood, alarms and warning, and repair and maintenance contact info. This training is available for all UW-Madison employees who use a fume hood or have one in their work area.

Chemical Safety Training (In-person)
