Radiation Safety 107: Laser Safety Training

Description:

Laser Safety Training is required for all users of Class 3B and 4 lasers. This basic laser safety course, developed by the Department of Energy, covers the fundamentals of laser operation, potential hazards associated with lasers, and ways to control the hazards. You must complete embedded quizzes at the end of each section.

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE DOE FINAL EXAM because you do not have access to the Fermilab learning management system. To get credit for the course, complete the quiz in Canvas.

Before beginning laser work, complete this course, notify ORS at lasersafety@wisc.edu and obtain a baseline eye exam from UHS Occupational Medicine. Call 608-265-5610 to schedule an appointment.

Getting Started With EHSA

Description:

New to EHSA, or having trouble navigating the EHSA database as you manage your radioactive materials inventory? If so, this course is for you. Radiation Safety 101A: Non-Human Clinical Research and Veterinary Medicine

Description:

After successful completion of this course, you will be a certified Radiation Worker at UW-Madison. This course consists of three modules that will introduce you to basic radiation safety principles, X-ray safety for users of clinical x-ray devices, and use of radioactive materials in animals. You will take a quiz and must score 80% or better to pass.

If you will use radioactive materials in animals, you must also complete the in-person Radiation Safety 101, Part II. RS 101 Part II is offered at 30 East Campus Mall and at WIMR. It covers practical aspects of our program and safe use of radionuclides in the laboratory. This in-person training is mandatory for all radioactive materials users at UW-Madison.

Radiation Safety 102: Annual Refresher Training for Radiation Workers

Description:

This mandatory annual refresher course covers a variety of radiation safety topics on a rotating basis and is intended for personnel who have been previously certified to work with radioactive material on the UW-Madison campus. It is an online module followed by a short quiz. A score of 80% is required to pass.

Topics focus on safe work practices and regulatory compliance obligations.

Radiation Safety 101: Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers – Part II

Description:

This in-person class is the second part of the Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers course. We will focus on the practical aspects of our program and safe use of radionuclides in the laboratory. Completion of Radiation Safety 101 parts 1 and 2 fulfills regulatory requirements and is mandatory for those who will use radioactive materials at UW-Madison.

Notes:
Portions I and II of Radiation Safety 101 are required to be completed in order to become an Authorized User of radioactive material at UW-Madison.
