Saving Labs Time with Combined Biosafety and Chemical Safety Visits

Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) has been working as a department to improve customer service, streamline processes, and promote safety as a value. One of our projects to help us reach these goals is integrating chemical safety visits with biological safety visits for laboratories working with biological materials.

Great news! We have streamlined this process. By combining biosafety and chem safety visits, EH&S can save some labs time and effort.

Together, our teams developed a new online checklist and report that covers essential safety items for both chemical and biological safety. At your next biological safety visit, the biological safety team will be supporting your lab not only for biological safety but will also be checking on chemical safety-related items as well. Any labs that need additional support from the Office of Chemical Safety due to chemical volume or chemical hazards will still receive that support.

More information on this transition, including a checklist and guidance, are available online.

If you have questions, please reach out to the Office of Biological Safety at biosafety@fpm.wisc.edu or 608-263-2037 or the Office of Chemical Safety by emailing chemsafety@fpm.wisc.edu or calling 608-265-5700.
