Background
As you may know, there was an initiative that started in FY16 to offer a replacement program for aging biological safety cabinet (BSC) equipment on the UW-Madison Campus. From that original program we were able to replace about two hundred old BSC. We are pleased to announce that campus administration is providing more funding for the purchase of twenty-five BSC in FY23 (in the amount of roughly $250,000) toward the campus BSC upgrade and replacement program. Manufacturer rebates for replacing BSC that are 15 years-old or older are included in the purchase price.
The serial numbers of replaced BSC must be reported back to Baker Company, Inc. to satisfy procurement contract specifications.
Program Priorities
Out of the approximately 1,800 BSC on the UW-Madison campus, 425 are at least 20 years old. Due to NSF/ANSI 49 standards, manufacturer recommendations and UW-Madison specifications, these cabinets need to be replaced. Any BSC (with external dampers) more than 15 years old will be prioritized for replacement.
If you have an older BSC and would like to take advantage of this program please send an email to bscservices@fpm.wisc.edu with serial, asset, room and building number.
